Productive meeting was held with the Mayor of the City of Hiroshima.

On 12 March 2026, a meeting was held between Ambassador Farid Talibov and the Mayor of Hiroshima City, Kazumi Matsui, with a view to promoting participation in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), which will be held in Baku on 17–22 May 2026. During the meeting, Ambassador Farid Talibov briefed the other side in detail on the nature of WUF13, the objectives of the Forum, the role of the city of Baku as host, and the expected outcomes of the event, and also presented the Mayor with the official invitation letter addressed by UN-Habitat. The Ambassador further provided information on the large-scale restoration and reconstruction works being carried out in the liberated territories, as well as on the measures undertaken for the revival of cities and settlements.

For his part, the Mayor of Hiroshima City, Kazumi Matsui, stated that he viewed with understanding the situation faced by Azerbaijan and, referring to Hiroshima’s post-war reconstruction experience, expressed his solidarity in this regard. He noted his desire to participate in WUF13 and underlined that he would be pleased to visit Baku if he is able to adjust his other engagements scheduled for those dates. The meeting was covered by the local media, and the Ambassador gave an interview to Hiroshima Home Television.
